What would an original film production office be without a little drama? Just ask the life-size Leatherface mannequin in the entryway of MPI Media Group’s newly renovated Orland Park, IL HQ.
MPI Media Group is a leading producer, distributor, and licensor of films and entertainment, known for their quirky documentaries and horror flicks. Intense geometric lines, bold blocks of color, and easily changeable branding pieces add to the dramatic flair. The most functional space within the office is perhaps also the most exciting. An existing sunken server room was converted into a screening theater, complete with stadium seating in a variety of chair selections. The front two corners of the room are marked by dramatic glass corner reveals, offering a sneak peek of the show from the reception area and helping to visibly proportion the mass inside the small space.
A relatively small budget didn’t deplete BOX Studios’s creativity to demand big impact from design details. The knife-edge trimmed ceiling cuts through the reception area and stretches beyond the conference room through the open office. The employee café is accentuated by a matching set of double doors that opens into a full 180-degree aperture, giving the theater easy-access to concessions. The final production was achieved by utilizing existing conditions wherever possible and focusing the tight budget on areas of maximum interest. The space is appealing to both MPI’s current needs as well as to a potential future tenant, and it’s definitely not a B-picture at the box office.
