The Nicholas & Associates HQ was a complete gut rehab of their existing office located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The family business was taken over by the four grown children after the passing of their father who started the 40-year-old company. It was the children’s vision to reimagine the business into a new era for the next generation. They envisioned a modern office that would celebrate the company’s history, refresh the brand, support the culture, and cater to employees and clients. The overarching design elevates raw materials and industrial elements that speak to their roots in construction, refined and yet approachable.
In reception, a custom, double-sided saltwater aquarium teams with vibrant tropical fish. As the late founder’s nickname was “Big Fish”, the aquarium is a cherished centerpiece that honors his memory. Spacious private offices for each employee line the perimeter of the space and have full glass fronts to allow natural light through. On the interior core of the plan are support spaces and varied work settings. Two of the most coveted spaces in the new office are the 1st flr Café/Break Room and the 2nd flr Hospitality Lounge. These multi-purpose hubs are destinations for meetings, happy hours, and entertaining clients. The lounge features a shuffleboard table and dartboard, and in the warm weather months, it opens to an outdoor deck space with a grill and fire table. A fitness center is also available for employee health and wellness.
