Roop is a vibrantly designed restaurant that serves as a dynamic backdrop to its spirited, modern Indian cuisine. The customized interior draws inspiration from its East and West Coast counterparts, while the Chicago location establishes its own distinct regional flair.
Located at the edge of the bustling West Randolph dining corridor, the restaurant spans two floors within a previously occupied restaurant space. Many engineered elements were retained, though the key design challenge involved reconfiguring the kitchen layout to optimize workflow and functionality. BOX Studios was also tasked with reconfiguring the existing second-floor space to accommodate a new mini kitchen. This strategic addition allowed the chef to meet the distinctive culinary requirements of this unique cuisine, complementing the first-floor kitchen and supporting the specialized needs of the Michelin-recognized chef.
The design of Roop showcases renovated bars on each level, elegant specialty lighting, and custom millwork throughout. Velvet banquette seating is paired with South Asian–inspired dining chairs, while refurbished rustic wood flooring adds warmth and texture. A hand-painted mural of an Indian princess anchors the space, blending cultural artistry with contemporary elegance. The restaurant is further enhanced by a state-of-the-art sound system and an integrated high-tech security system, ensuring both ambiance and performance meet modern hospitality standards.
